Kitten story
Dec. 4th, 2013 11:59 pmIt’s probably obvious to all of you, but the last few days, I’ve been having a hard time getting much done, other than getting the house ready for a kitten or two, looking for kittens on craigslist and at the pet stores, applying in advance with the rescue agency that has the most kittens, etc. Yesterday was no exception, and when I found myself chatting in the supermarket checkout line with an old acquaintance and she asked how I’m doing, I couldn’t help but respond with, “Fine, but I want to get a kitten.”
“You know some people are giving away some kittens right outside, don’t you?” she asked, and no, I did not! Most people use the southern entrance to Safeway, but I use the northern one, which is nearer my house. Sure enough, two lovely women from Togo were out there with a cat carrier containing two beautiful kittens, huddling together against the cold. I called D. on the phone and urged him to put on his shoes and jacket and walk over to Safeway immediately to meet these kittens. We looked at each other, and his eyes were shining as much as mine.
