LeGuin, again
Nov. 8th, 2013 10:47 pmTonight’s public event featuring Ursula LeGuin was the 40th anniversary celebration of the UO’s Center for the Study of Women in Society. She read an unpublished story set in Wyoming, engaged in a “conversation” with two academics, and responded to audience questions (firmly resisting any efforts to get her to analyze or interpret her own writing). She’s 84; I wish my mom (who turns 80 on Monday) were doing as well. (Oh, and we arrived in the ticket line at the same time as Vonda McIntyre!)
Afterwards, J. and I went to dinner with his friend’s wife and her daughter, at the Glenwood. The conversation was interesting, as the friend’s wife is a local historian and archaeologist, very active in public affairs. I am much less exhausted – and consequently feeling much better – than I was before we went, nearly five hours ago.
