Reflections during meetings
Apr. 8th, 2013 09:06 pmDuring Scientist Council: I felt a tad self-conscious when I noticed I was the only woman wearing a skirt*. There were 10 female and 14 male scientists there, with 11 wearing blue jeans (mostly the men), and seemingly nobody else in a skirt. It turned out Lisa S. was wearing one, but it was so long that it looked like pants. Oh well, tomorrow I’ll probably wear my other dress anyway. On the one hand, it would be nice to have more dresses or skirts; on the other hand, we all wear pants at work, evidently, or shorts in summer, so there’s not much point.
During our late afternoon pilot study planning meeting: How lovely to have this view of the river from our new building. Looking out over H’s shoulder I could see it flowing west; looking over Kathy F’s shoulder it appeared to be just sparkling in place. There were birds to watch, too – crows gathering long twigs by the river and flying over our building to build nests somewhere; a pair of swifts darting as if in play; big Canada geese nesting on the grass between the railroad tracks and the river. I could see an orange tabby wandering over there as well, but sensibly not near the geese.
* Since I can't wear pants due to poison oak.
