Poison oak

Yesterday, a few spots on my left index finger. Today: almost my whole left index finger and, more uncomfortable, much of the right side of my neck.

When we went to the woods on Sunday, we talked about poison oak for much of the first part of our hike. “Is this poison oak?” they’d ask. “Yes.” “Is this poison oak?” “No, that’s a blackberry vine.” With that in mind, I was really careful when we explored next to the pond, which has become pretty overgrown. Then we walked through the meadow and over to the edge of the park, then headed back towards the car. When we were near the pond again, I wanted to take a quick peek for more frogs, so I left them on the main trail and dashed over there and back again. I’m guessing that’s when it happened; I must have been too reckless. D. and J. seem fine.

Update: Yay, Internet. Eventually a website reminded me of the trick of running really hot water on the poison oak rash, which sort of shorts out the itch-nerves for a few hours.
