In which I play Magic the Gathering

We had an actual Social Event today, such an unusual thing! First, D. and I went to Bi-Mart with J, where we bought a floor lamp and a microwave for his apartment, which has been lacking such things all along. Then we collected one of J’s friends and returned, then others arrived, namely my friend C. and her son and two other guys that J&D know. After C. and I assembled the floor lamp, the eight of us played Magic together. I drafted a deck for the Simic guild, but since I knew nothing of the cards (less than any of the others), I ended up 0-3. I should have side-boarded (that is, substituted cards I hadn’t played for those that turned out to be consistently unhelpful), but didn’t think of it at the time. D. went 2-1 and had great fun, and J. had been hoping to host an event like this ever since he moved out west, so finally we have done it, the first of many, we hope.

I was rather worn out afterwards (between pollen and introversion), but this evening I’ve read numerous chapters of Fledgling, another Liaden book, which was nicely restorative, although I wish I’d had more time today to read more for my moral foundations paper.
