Rose Bowl! Oregon 45, Wisconsin 38
Jan. 2nd, 2012 11:08 pmThis game was exciting! The first half consisted of Wisconsin scoring a touchdown, then Oregon matching it, four times. In the second half, Wisconsin was ahead by a field goal, then in the middle of a scoring drive that would have given them a 10-point lead, Oregon managed to intercept the ball, and eventually ended up with the win. Oregon last won the Rose Bowl in 1917 (the third time it was played).
I watched the game with my favorite Oregon Ducks fan. He did a round of 10 pushups for every score of either team, in the first half, plus a few extras for commercials. In the second half, he was pretty wound up: “Oh, I’m so scared! I’m a nervous wreck!” with an excited grin on his face, and it was fun to watch him leap about with every success.
My rabbi friend invited me to join the crowd at the neighborhood bar, but by the time I was finally out on a walk, it was two hours later and the crowds had dispersed. I just bought myself a banana at Safeway and collected this month’s poem from the neighborhood poetry box. The others out walking and biking after dark were extra friendly – I got two greetings (usually none).
(Later, we played Carcassonne again; it's quite fun. I did get that Eureka episode taped today, and I got to read D. an amusing story about Veka the goblin's experiences at a human wizard school.)
