Come on, now. *grumblings*
Aug. 3rd, 2011 10:13 pmSwiss chard is a cool weather crop. Around here, we’re supposed to sow it in August, so we can harvest it in the fall. And yet, when I went to buy some seeds...
The Hiron’s seed rack was down to carrots and cucumbers – fine, they didn’t want to bother restocking mid-season. Down to Earth had decided to close for the day to do an inventory. Eugene Hardware’s seed racks were gone entirely, and they told me they only sell them in the spring. Rite-Aid’s seed racks were gone entirely, too, leaving a large bare space that they hadn’t bothered filling with anything else, so wasn’t that counter-productive? Finally, Safeway (which I’d thought the least likely bet) actually had a properly stocked seed rack. I’d rather have bought seeds for rainbow chard, but they only had the white-ribbed type, so that’s what it will be.
