Mini-milestone (or maybe relatively major)
Dec. 3rd, 2010 10:34 pmToday I made some edits to my dissertation proposal, drove to the office and printed it and made four copies (each over half an inch thick), then drove over to campus and walked around delivering them. When I got home, I felt profoundly tired, and ended up napping for the better part of two hours, which is very unlike me. I woke to find an almost fascinating Bionicles movie playing on the TV, with Michael Dorn (Worf) voicing the newcomer to the planet who was learning about “friendship” for the first time. Opening my eyes, I saw that the characters were so ugly that it’s kind of astounding to think kids would like to watch it. R. and I kind of liked it, though.
Because of winter break, I won’t be defending my proposal ’til mid-January or so, which means I can now work on getting caught up on other things, like... the rest of my work, and holiday planning, and figuring out which grants to apply for. Oh! One relaxing thought: Our copy of the new Brandon Sanderson book arrived today, the one in the YA series that D. so loves: Alcatraz Versus the Shattered Lens. That will be such fun! Sanderson says that all of the dialogue in one chapter comes from Shakespeare!
