Destroy Build Destroy
Aug. 25th, 2010 11:05 pmD. and I discovered a new game show today that was very entertaining to watch. Even for me – I mean, hey, I like explosions and frantic competitions as much as anybody. Two teams of high school kids had to build a raft for an ATV, out of parts from a partially demolished school bus (after choosing from several exciting demolition methods: bus rolled off a cliff, bus blasted by a Howitzer, etc.). Midway through creating their designs, they were interrupted for a game of “human bowling” involving a giant slip-and-slide; the losers were handicapped by mittens for a while (and the winners were handicapped by the temptation to watch the others trying to build in that condition). Then they rowed their ATVs across a “lake” in a multi-lap race ’til one team had won, and finally the winning team got to drop a bomb on the losing raft. Boom!
Much to D’s credit, he thought the best part would be building the raft. He’s spent the summer designing video game levels on Boom Blox and the Atmosphyr site, so I suppose it’s not surprising, but wouldn’t most boys prefer the explosions or the race?
