Star Party
Jul. 16th, 2010 11:58 pmWe went to another Star Party - how long ago was our last, four years maybe? It was fun, though a tad chilly in short sleeves. The prettiest thing we saw was Saturn, with Titan and another moon about intermediate in position between them.* Also very pretty were lots of globular clusters (M4 and M13 are the only names I remember). And we saw the moon (naturally) and the Ring Nebula and the Lagoon Nebula. And an iridium flare. The Star Parties are on top of College Hill, with a great view in all directions but also a pretty good access to the city sounds, and the Snoop Dogg/Ice Cube concert at the Cuthbert Amphitheatre about two miles away sounded more like a car parked in the neighborhood with the bass cranked up.
(Also, my NIH proposal is now properly submitted; I think I have to wait 'til November to hear the outcome.)
* Based on this list, I'm guessing Rhea.
