An unfortunate lack
Jan. 7th, 2010 11:33 pmOne of the few things I dislike about Eugene is that we no longer have any independent booksellers with decent sci-fi/fantasy selections. When I was a teenager, we had Gandalf's Den, and until about 1995 or so we had Escape Books, but now not only do we not have any dedicated sci-fi/fantasy bookstores, the general bookstores are also woefully lacking. Well, Smith Family is great, actually, for used books; for example, you can get pretty much all the Xanth books there, if you're patient and somehow happen to want Xanth books*, and a good selection of earlier stuff, but not so much that's current. The UO bookstore sometimes has what I'm looking for, but not very often. My favorite local bookstore, Black Sun, only has one shelf of sci-fi.
(I need the sequel to Mistborn... I suppose I'll have to resort to Amazon or, horror, a chain.)
* The year I did the stats sequence, I lived on Xanth and Discworld.
