We did go to the county fair, and the weather was great. The racing pigs were cute, the frisbee-dogs were entertaining, and D's new favorite ride ("The Tornado") made me too dizzy to watch, though it really was reasonably conservative by carnival-ride standards. The bunnies and goats and sheep and piglets and chickens and pheasants and horses were all fine, and the jambalaya I ate for lunch was apparently perfectly digestible. The real marvel for me, though, was the motorcycle ramp tricks, which we watched from afar - I mean, it was breathtaking. They'd go up a ramp, then while way high in the air would do something utterly risky and precarious, then settle back on the bike and land it, to cheers. One guy even did a full somersault up there!

(I intended to post fair pictures, but this evening the camera developed an invisibility to whatever computer it's attached to, and I just spent more than an hour dealing with Kodak's customer service.)

My day also included: returning library books, shopping for my mom at Capella's deli, bringing her "wine" bottles home to uncork because her corkscrews were broken, then driving back with two open bottles in my car, steering the ancient Volvo to a parking spot across the street while R. pushed it with his truck (they're sealing cracks in our side of the street on Monday), nearly colliding with a drab-colored car when driving my mom's down to get some gasoline, washing the hazardous layer of dust off its windshield when I got home again, watching the Fifth Element opera scene while dining on a burger and fries, then finally seeing Slumdog Millionaire, and waiting for D. to get home from one of the last Ems baseball games in Civic Stadium. And now, of course, the camera "event." Kind of an intense day, no?
