This morning: More drama about getting my mom off to see her doctor, who of course said: No more driving, no more wine. I got to escape for four hours at work and on campus, then R. and I went out for burgers at the neighborhood pub while D. had an "awesome" time at a friend's birthday party, then (after an episode of Kings), R. and I joined the party at their home for a while.

This evening, my mom left a total of six messages on the theme of "When are you bringing my car back?" after I told her directly that it's not coming back, because she's not allowed to drive any more. (The doctor's unwelcome message(s) didn't stick.) However, after consulting with a variety of people, including my sister, the conclusion is that she'll adapt better in the long run to not driving if the car isn't sitting there in the carport, looking available for use.

Basically, the choices are:
  • Keep the car at my house, making her unhappy, such that she'll pester the neighbors to drive her places, and call me umpteen times a day, such that we dare not answer the phone, or

  • Keep the car in her driveway, reassuring her with its familiar presence, but keep the keys, such that she spends all day looking for them and calling people to help her find them - and it's a remote possibility that she has a spare, and an even more remote possibility that she could figure out how to get someone to make her new ones.

  • What do you think?
