A sheltered child
Oct. 3rd, 2008 04:19 pmOn the way to buy a birthday present for his friend, D. had a few political questions for me, like about the difference between mayor and president, and if you're the mayor's kid and he dies, do you then have to be the mayor, stuff like that.
Naturally I turned the topic to the election process. D. explained to me that if you want to be president, you have to explain your plans and ideas to everybody, so they can decide if you'd be a good president. I added the character issue: Can you believe they'll do what they say? Then I added the personality issue: You can't plan ahead of time for everything that might happen, and you want a president who will have a good idea of what to do if there's a crisis.
D. agreed, and volunteered his idea of a national crisis: "Like if there's a really bad, bad burglar, and he gets out of jail and wants revenge. He might get his burglar friends and try to steal from everyone in the whole country! If you were the president, you'd have to know what to do."
