Plant rescue operation
Aug. 9th, 2008 10:29 pmThe fence guy said that the shrubs in the back corner will be "toast," so I'm making an effort to salvage them. Yesterday I dug up and repotted two clematis (small flowering vines) and the shorter of our viburnums, and today I set about saving the old camellia. It might be 'Nuccio's Gem' or 'Nuccio's Pearl' (see icon), two rather formal-looking hybrids that we brought from California when we moved back up here, 16 years ago, but I'm not at all certain. It took me about an hour to dig it up, and at one point I discovered some utility access thing that make me wary, so I gave up on the shovel and just used my hands. Now it's in a pot with a bunch of nice topsoil, though, and within luck, it'll be back in the ground in a few weeks.
