We had a presentation at work today from the Slow Food movement and a local CSA (that's community-supported agriculture, where people pay in advance for a share of a farm's produce for the season). While I agree with both of these in principle, the former presentation was a bit too yuppie and the latter too hippie. That is, it wasn't a selling point for me that the good people of Winter Green Farm have religion confused with science. If they want to ritually bury herb-stuffed cow intestines in the soil for one year, then dig them up at a time of planetary harmony, dilute the contents to homeopathic levels, and spray it on the plants, that's all well and good, but claiming that it makes the plants grow better makes me want to keep my distance.
Anyway, we couldn't possibly use or preserve a full share, and they don't sell partial shares, so we should either find a CSA that does or someone to split a share with. There are at least a dozen organic CSAs around Eugene, so I should look for one that has lots of berries and tomatoes.
