Shooting star!
Feb. 22nd, 2008 08:40 pmI saw a spectacular shooting star this evening. It all happened so fast, not more than a second, but I think the sequence was like this.
A bright flash, just north of Gemini, catches my eye. It looks just like a golden arrowhead.
Me (internally): "Whoa, what a strange plane!"
It streaks away to the northeast, covering a distance of about two moon-widths.
"How can something that far away move that fast?"
It vanishes.
"Huh? Did it go behind a cloud?"
I peer more carefully and discern that there are no clouds right there.
"Oh! A shooting star! But so much flashier than any I've ever seen before!"
