Today was my first Formal Evaluation in grad school. I assume that I passed, because I'm on top of the requirements and none of my committee members expressed any concerns. It was just 20 minutes of nice conversation. I'll have another one in spring term, 2009.
One of my committee members was a bit late. He had been riding his bike to campus when the light he was carrying flew out and landed under a car. He ended up fishing it out with a stick of bamboo he found nearby, and then discovered that the fourth battery had gone off into a ditch. (This is academic life in Eugene.)
Topic change. We watched the loveliest show about Australian wild parrots, in high definition on the new, bigger TV. We saw half last night and half tonight, before D's bedtime. Lillian loved it, especially the black cockatoos (remember her fascination with televised ravens). Last night she sat and stared, then started looking behind the TV for the birds. This time she stretched up as tall as she could and tried to peer over the top of the TV for them.
