Fall: Apples, Football, Food
Oct. 27th, 2007 08:57 pmR&D went to Tom's Orchard this morning and got our annual boxes of fancy apples: 'Rubinette,' 'Sierra Beauty,' and 'Hatsuaki.' They arrived just in time for the big football game. Oregon beat USC! Woo! During halftime, I went on a quick walk up the hill to St. Jude's. Then Oregon State beat Stanford and Wazzu upset UCLA (the latter helps Oregon's conference rankings). Now Cal might be beating the highly overranked ASU, and if they do, Oregon will be #4!
We celebrated the Ducks' victory by indulging at dinnertime. We tried Iraila's for the first time. It's a Mediterranean restaurant next to Humble Bagel, near Sundance Natural Foods. Our dinner was great. I had Kotopoulo Filo Chicken, which was chicken with lemon, feta, cumin, and carmellized onions with a phyllo crust served with vegetables and couscous. R. had something called Chicken Lyon, and then we split the very best thing: gnocchi with an intense sauce of butter and chopped filberts. I'm not a gnocchi fan, but this was fabulous.
