Let them eat cake!
Aug. 23rd, 2007 09:46 amToday's our wedding anniversary. Since I was 19 at the time, that means we've now been married one bazillion years. Rather than scanning another picture, I feel like sharing this one again:

Celebratings
Aug. 23rd, 2007 09:38 pmFirst, gifts. I gave R. a CD player boom box (his old one broke) and the New Pornographers CD that came out on Tuesday (and cost more to ship than the CD). He bought me three great things with no guidance whatsoever, beyond the general suggestion of "bookstore"... a Japanese woodblock calendar, a very detailed book about Celtic art, and a super-heavy coffee table book about Gothic architecture, which I completely love! (He's right in that I'm probably pretty well saturated on the Islamic architecture books at this point.) Then he went to work, and to surprise him I spend a long time dusting all his CDs and rebuilding shelving for them, which looks pretty nice now.
Around 3:30 p.m. he came home early from work, and we went over to the Highlands for two games of pool and some very tasty quesadillas. (Also he had a Willamette Valley IPA that really tastes like the smell of the roadside herbage up near Lebanon and Albany - I'm so curious.) Next to our table, three very exuberant young guys played pingpong while listening to some really loud Stevie Wonder hits (I still haven't gotten "Boogie On Reggae Woman" out of my head). R. won the first game, and I would have won the second if the eight-ball hadn't gone into a pocket other than the one I called. I made three ridiculously spectacular and whimsical shots, too!
Our anniversary dinner was from Chef's Kitchen, our neighborhood Swiss-PNW-Asian-fusion restaurant. R. had his favorite, the wienerschnitzel mit spaetzele, and I had halibut with chanterelle mushrooms and huckleberry bechamel cream sauce. More huckleberries would have been nice. I wished I could stand cooked tuna, because the nectarine-wasabi-ginger-dijon sauce sure sounded good. Time to experiment at home, I guess.
