Quirky discoveries
Jan. 20th, 2007 01:45 pmAt the supermarket today, I discovered that whereas conventional bulk turmeric is the exact color of French's mustard, the organic version is a metallic shade of orange. Anyone know why? Do they bleach the turmeric root or something, to get the yellow?
I'm procrastinating reading five papers by Sarah Hampson on children's personality and health, and I just discovered that the same actor who plays the young king in Krull also played Michael Eddington, the principled traitor on DS9!
Also, the guy who plays Rochester in this weekend's new Jane Eyre was in Mangal Pandey - something to look for when I finally make time to watch it.

fractal9091: George R.R. Martin has signed an agreement that will turn his Song of Fire and Ice books into an HBO series along the lines of Rome and Deadwood! In the article, he claims he'll finish writing the last (seventh) book in 2011. Considering the fact that the total intended number of books in the series appears to grow by one book every year or two, maybe he's committing himself to the TV series to force himself to wrap things up. NC friends, be sure to ask him when you see him at Trinoc*coN this summer, 'kay?
