Ups and downs
Nov. 1st, 2005 09:33 pmFun:
1. Class. Two hours of sitting around chatting about the evolution of religions, views of how the world is (dangerous? full of opportunities?), deities as social support agents, differences between the Taoist religion and the Taoist philosophy, and aspiring diviners among the Masai. We even get credits for this!
2. Silly TV "sports." First I watched a pumpkin propelling competition, using huge air cannons, catapults, centrifugal machines, torsion, and human-powered efforts. Later, "Extreme Dodgeball," in which the N.Y. Bling beat the Chicago Hitmen for a "big" $5,000 prize. A lot like the movie, but timed matches, not just player elimination.
Not Fun:
Having my car key refuse to turn in the ignition about two minutes before the Kindermusik kids do their ritual "Yoo hoooo!" to summon the moms and dads into the lesson; jogging/walking the seven blocks instead (not that far, but there's a steep hill en route), in damp weather; walking my sick, laryngitic child all the way home after, in the dark.
