Meditations on Alison Gross
Apr. 8th, 2005 03:11 pmI looked up the lyrics of this Steeleye Span song today, as I couldn't remember which sort of creature the title character, "the ugliest witch in the North Country," had turned the singer into when he rejected her advances. It was an "ugly worm," and there the folk song ends, with a final chorus.
So I got to thinking. ( And here's what I thought. )
Although I like having the song end with the singer in a state of worminess, because it begs the question of how he's managing to sing it, I was also interested today to find the rest of the lyrics on-line. I think they tend to (indirectly) confirm my theory!
