(I don't know why, but I really liked that line.)

I finished Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell today. How would I describe it? Intriguing, eventually rather exciting, and ultimately satisfying. Not too long, though it's nearly 800 pages.

I had no time to do anything properly "Easter" in a religious sense, other than having a Discovery Channel show about apostles on in the background while dyeing eggs. I'd sort of wanted to listen to the wonderful Brombaugh organ at the Episcopal church, or to hear the sermon on perennial stories at the Unitarian church (where apparently they were covering Passover as well as Easter, even though it's weeks away), but wasn't ready to leave the house 'til 11:30 a.m.

When R. and D. returned from shopping, D. found that the Bunny had hidden the eggs inside this year, as it was raining steadily. After his nap, we worked on the new puzzle the Bunny had brought him while watching more on the Discovery Channel, this time an undersea archaeology show about a failed Mongol invasion of Japan (4,400 ships sunk!). The Bunny had also brought me a gift: a gorgeous book of Islamic art and architecture, to add to my collection. We had dinner at my mom's.

My previous puzzlings over explaining both meanings of Easter were premature, as D. was quite content to learn that eggs and flowers are associated with spring. Jesus was mentioned, but he's really not clear on the difference (if any) between him and MLK. ("But Jesus lived 2,000 years ago, and Martin Luther King was alive when Mommy was a little girl." "...Oh.") Speaking of which, a coworker's daughter (age 7, I think) was asked by a friend if she believed in God. The answer, "You mean Zeus? Sure, I saw him in Hercules."
