The awakening of a new form of greed
Mar. 7th, 2005 12:50 pmI needed to return a library book and while there ventured into the CD area (more accessible than it was in the old building) to get that Rachmaninoff symphony D. had liked.I had fun! The limit was five CDs. I also got two Mendelssohn symphonies, two by Magnard (for no better reason than liking the pastoral cover illustration), and a Mozart CD with his flute and harp concerto and two others. Then, belatedly, I discovered the ethnic music section. What an array! Dozens classified as Celtic, Irish, Scottish, or British (curiously, no Welsh; I do want to hear that Fernhill CD some day). I'm also intrigued by "Korean court music." The one I ended up choosing for my fifth CD was a collection of Breton songs and dances.
Fancy dinner planned: a stir-fry of baby bok choi, shiitakes, chicken, ginger, and garlic.
Spring is quite a protracted affair here in the Willamette Valley, lasting four full months. Today (which is quite sunny and bright and already 63), the flowering plums were joined by a great many camellias and the first of the magnolias, both the usual pink type and the white stellatas. Expect to see a lot of flower pictures...
