"Pizza feet"
Jan. 28th, 2005 09:34 pmI love the sound of the pouring rain. Sometimes the wind plings it against the window, and other times it sounds further away but no less steady.
We switched to the Friday dance class: three boys and six girls. The teacher is simply wonderful, amazing with children. In ballet's "first position," they make "pizza feet" as if they could fit a big wedge of pizza in there. Demi-pliés (semi-squats) have them making diamonds of air between their legs, and demi-pliés from second position, with their feet planted apart, has them making houses. They play a really fun-looking game that we'll have to try in our house when the tree is finally down: Dance however you want, and whenever you're ready, freeze into a statue pose. If you see a statue, you can pose yourself around them (without touching), which liberates them to dance more but makes you a new statue. Continue 'til the song is done, and if you're the last dancer, I guess you don't get to freeze spontaneously, or everyone would be stuck!
