A surprising movie endorsement
Oct. 2nd, 2004 08:41 pmToday was rather stressful for reasons in my extended family, but I did finish rereading Desert Solitaire, and I got to show R. the new entrance to the secret park by our house, and then we had fun seeing fantasy versions of Sydney, Australia, in back-to-back movies. First, D. watched Finding Nemo, which is one of his tapes, but when it was finally done we looked at the cable listings and decided hmm, we may as well try Babe: Pig in the City, since it would keep D. entertained. Well! My expectation was that it would be something like Crocodile Dundee walking around the streets of New York, but with the pig instead. Nothing of the sort! This was an enthralling movie, more fantasy than the original, with really extraordinary dialogue, especially from the chimpanzee family living in the hotel. We were transfixed. I'm going to tape it tonight and watch it even more carefully tomorrow, since I missed the first 20 minutes and part of the big banquet scene. By the way, not only did we see back-to-back movies about fantasy Sydney, but we also saw back-to-back movies in which a pelican transports animals of other species in its pouch. How many movies could there be with that motif?
