The Junior Olympiad
Jul. 30th, 2004 10:53 pmAgate Street's very festive this week, with colorful banners for the Junior Olympics among the oak trees, and crowds of young track-and-field athletes and their families and coaches. I read that there are over 5,600 students and that if they didn't reserve their hotel rooms by March, they're now commuting in from places like Florence (60 miles away on the coast) and Salem (70 miles away, towards Portland). I hope they're enjoying Eugene; the weather's been good (mid-80s and not overly humid). It's wondrous that it hasn't really affected my parking for work.
D. acquired as many as 100 more dinosaur toys today, and about 20 more books, mostly about dinosaurs, courtesy of my sister and mom. Also thanks to K., tomorrow we may be playing with a Spongebob lawn sprinkler, squirting water randomly through eight flailing tentacles! (D. also got a Thomas drawbridge, a box of outrageously named crayons -- inchworm???, coloring books, some stuffed dragon toys, a Spider-man fork and spoon, a Dora puzzle, and very possibly other stuff.)
