It's good, but I'm tired...
Jun. 24th, 2004 11:34 pmThis week I've walked 8.7 miles so far, the most since Sept. 2002. I try to track all walks greater than half a mile and add them up each week (Saturday through Friday). I like to walk, and there are lots of beautiful places to walk, both in my neighborhood (streets, woods, etc.) and by my office (the UO campus and the riverside paths). Even just setting forth from my house, there's a great deal of diversity depending on which of about eight directions I can go -- mostly level and residential, but four parklike areas and several hills, too. I usually don't even bother going to a real trail. Unfortunately, most of my "unallocated" time happens during David's nap or the evening, when I can't go out.
So I'm pleased that this week I've managed more than 8 miles, when most weeks are just 1-4 miles, but it seems so paltry when compared with the 4.8 mile round-trip walk I used to make to high school every day, or my great lunch-hour treks through the San Francisco Financial District when I worked there while expecting, or the several years that I regularly jogged, hiked, and otherwise roamed through the redwood and bay laurel forests in the Oakland Hills.
