Day Nineteen: Requiescat

eve_primeLast night I woke after only about five hours of sleep, and I found myself mentally writing my mom's obituary. If I'd been more awake, I would have remembered that when I'm mentally writing something instead of sleeping it is far more efficient for me to just turn on a computer and type it all up. Eventually I did so, but then I had a hard time getting back to sleep and only slept 45 minutes more, at most.
Then I was up for the day and checked my phone; my mom had passed away in the night. I called the mortuary place and gave them my e-mail address, then did some forms they sent me. Then I (virtually) attended a meeting for work, and after that J. and I drove to my sister's house to exchange some paperwork with her. She's been handling my mom's finances for the past 10 years, whereas I'm the executor of the estate, so she had a lot of information to give me. It will probably be interesting to learn what's involved in settling an estate. Fortunately my mom doesn't own any property; she just has some accounts.
I left my obituary draft with my sister so she can add everything else she wants. I'll post it here when it's finished.
