Yesterday good things happened too, of course. And these were pretty good!
  • I wore shoes!
  • I saved a nice pair of D's pants!
  • The sky was clear and blue!
  • I essentially got a raise!

It was great to have the smoke out of the air. It was a beautiful day, 85 degrees, the kind of day we expect to have in the summer and take for granted too easily. I wore both of my shoes to walk to the store, not just the shoe-and-boot combination. It's four weeks since I broke my toe, and it's almost entirely better now.

D. had gotten some bad stains on his second pair of khaki pants. This was months ago. I'd researched online and found a product called GoJo that's intended for mechanics needing to get grease and such off their hands, and I'd been waiting for summer so I could use it outside in case it was scented. It turned out to be pretty innocuous scent-wise, and very powerful against stains. I rubbed it in all the stained areas, let it sit for half an hour or so, then ran it through the wash, and it came out perfectly clean. We were both amazed.

My grant's in its "no cost extension" year now, where I get to spend the rest of the money that we didn't use in its five-year term, while we finish up the work and get the papers published. My co-investigator, JA, who is semi-retired and functions as my mentor, told me I should and charge more FTE per month since I'm working so much on the papers. Yay, more money. It will help make a cushion for the month(s) that I won't have a grant, once this extension runs out (scary). The grant approval process takes so long, and so few are funded these days.
