Practicing the empty nest

D's gone to the coast with his girlfriend's family. They left yesterday and will be back on Wednesday, so, three nights. I can't remember if his trip to Outdoor School in fifth grade was three nights or four, but that was the only other time he was gone for more than two nights in a row. So I get to see what it'll be like when he's grown up and no longer living with mom. Not bad, though I suspect I'll go to the office more often when the time comes, so I can have more companionship beyond J.
