Downton Abbey speculations

I thought I’d read that season six will be the end, and if that’s the case, I predict the season’s main theme will be “Catty Lady Mary vs. Poor Lady Edith.” All of their buffers are gone, now that Tom and Rose have left the household too, and the two women’s situations have been set up as poignantly parallel. Mary, a high-status widow, has all the suitors she could want and an official heir (in whom she has no interest). Edith is also essentially a widow (although without the status) and also has a child (whom she dotes on but can’t acknowledge); she’s the subject of ongoing hostility from Mary; and if she ever finds someone to marry, she’ll have to leave her daughter behind and have deception at the heart of her relationship. I hope it’s not too vicious. I also hope that they’ll do the “right” thing, soap opera style, and bring a living Michael Gregson back for her at the end.
