Today I was thinking about those peppermint swirly hard candies. What are they called? Starlights! Thank you, Internet, that's good to know. Anyway, we're taking a photo of products that help people when they're trying to quit tobacco, for our website at work, and I wanted some of those in it, but JG did not, because they have sugar, and she wanted to promote only sugar-free hard candies.

So I gave in on the cinnamon Jolly Ranchers and the Wint-O-Green Lifesavers, but I did keep the starlight mints. And that's because when I was 5 years old and entering first grade, I wrote it down in my annual "school days" book, it was my career aspiration, to be a candy maker! Because how could life be better than to spend one's days producing such symmetrical loveliness?

I can still remember that feeling and the mental image that went with it, even when I completely fail to recall why I wanted to be a "cowgrel" the year before. (My spelling at age 4 was not the best!)
