Today, at the university, we had a colloquium with Dan Kelly from Purdue, a philosopher who’s published a book on disgust, which is relevant to my moralization work. He was a good speaker, although his personal contribution to the material he presented to us today appeared to be vanishingly small. I’ve downloaded some of his recent papers from his website, though, and they look pretty interesting. Perhaps today’s talk was on the foundations of the work he himself did. I hope his book on the topic has more of his own contributions in it, though; otherwise he could as well have been a journalist.

The talk was in the Collier House, an old house with neat architecture in the heart of campus. When I was an undergraduate at the UO, before my Berkeley days, there was a restaurant in there; now they mostly use it for music recitals. The main entrance stairs were damaged and closed, so I used the access ramp, which led under a really pretty white magnolia. Magnolias are blooming!
