Energy! Wonder Woman! Ted!
Today, to my great surprise, I had ample energy and whirred about like a, a, a whirring thing, whatever, getting things done. I did some work, and wrote down some ideas to send to my friend who's running the campus "common reading" project, and then I dashed off to the post office to package up D's headphones and ship them away to Mississippi for warranty replacement. Then I worked on a youth orchestra thing for a bit, including a phone call, and then I spent at least an hour trying to make D's audition CD for the All State wind ensemble (knowing full well he doesn't really want to do it, so probably won't submit the audition tomorrow). Then I drove him to his clarinet lesson, then came back for all the clarinet books he'd left at home, and so forth, then finally collected him, discussed all the pros and cons for the audition (his main objection is that he doesn't like to interact with people who aren't already his friends), and dropped him off at home and ordered his Thursday pizza.
Then J. and I jumped in his car and drove downtown to see Wonder Woman. We were a minute or two late, but there were only maybe six other people in the theater and it was easy to get my favorite seats in the back row. We had fun watching the movie! It was great! Then we drove to a more centrally located downtown parking spot and went to the blandly named Game Pub (formerly the extravagantly named Shoryuken League) to meet up with our friend Ted, who's moving to Florida on Sunday. Ted's a game designer and a cool and fascinating fellow. He's been looking to move to a sunnier location with a decent salary for some time, and wasn't able to get a job in California, but he did get a great-sounding job for a company that's planning to combine virtual reality with augmented reality. We will miss Ted and his entertaining family. We got to meet three of his friends, but Game Pub was too loud, especially when they resumed their Thursday night trivia contest, so we tried going to the Barn Light down the block. Unfortunately, it was their karaoke night. Fortunately, the weather was quite temperate, and we found a comfortable place to sit outside the Tap House, where I got us a big plate of nachos with pulled pork and we could talk properly.
Eventually our four-hour outing came to an end, and we drove home and more or less collapsed - I was unaccountably stiff and a bit achy, and J. had been on the go since an official work group breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by a long and tiring day at work. I imagine tomorrow will be much less lively.
