A vaguely Japanese-themed and very happy birthday

In the afternoon, a walk with J. by the millrace – it was fairly cold, with lots of fall color, and a few ducks in the pond. I came home and watched a bit of Globe Trekker (foods of Sicily) and finished reading Ethan of Athos.

Before dinner, gifts! D. gave me the DVD of My Neighbor Totoro. J. gave me an art photograph of the McKenzie River, a green Magic deck box and three booster packs and a Commander deck (Freyalise), a book of Austen fan fiction (Dear Mr. Darcy), a black cloissonné bracelet with pink flowers (which he bought at the Asian Celebration back in February), and a beautiful tencel scarf from a fabric artist in Wisconsin.

For dinner, we went to Sushi Domo, a Japanese restaurant, where we had a bit of sushi (shared), seafood tempura (me), regular yakitori (J), and spicy yakitori (D, who is still learning chopsticks).

Then we came home and watched My Neighbor Totoro, which D. had seen in Japanese class. He’s been singing the theme song for weeks now. Then everyone attempted Ajani leg-lifts, until sleepy Ajani got tired of being passed back and forth among us. Then D. gave me a clarinet concert (with Sorin hiding at the end of the hallway). (Then, then, then.)

After that, I went on a very brisk walk beneath a cold, starry sky. Then D. and I shared a bit of The Hand of Oberon (fourth Amber book – we’re making progress!). And then I visited J. for my daily bite of birthday cake. Midnight found me in the hot tub, feeling like one of those snow monkeys from the Nagano hot springs. (It’s very cold out there!)

Post slightly post-dated to get the whole day in.
