Today was our annual foray to the Lane County Fair. We were in a hurry, so we just hit the highlights. First the kids' art (D. got a "participant" ribbon), then he went on his favorite ride, the Tiger Express. Those of you who got our holiday card last year will recognize this setting, if not the expressions:

Then we visited the farm animals, and then we got lunch. It seems normal to me by this point to have Thai food at the county fair, but one booth was selling "grilled salmon fettucine," which, sorry, is just not "fair food." R. and I had philly steak sandwiches, and D. had an elephant's ear and a pomegranate lemonade. (Elephant's ears, aka frijos, are sort of a cross between a huge flat fritter and a pancake, topped with cinnamon and sugar. It's a Scandinavian-American thing, and definitely fair food.) We were then running out of time, so I visited the horses and the quilts and left for work, while R&D stayed for at least one more ride.
