Day 986: A cold surprise! Well, no, two cold surprises!
Yesterday I was sneezing a bit, and today after I'd been awake a while I realized that I probably have a mild cold. Good thing book club was on Zoom, because otherwise I couldn't have responsibly attended.
But that wasn't the "cold surprise" I was originally thinking of. I'd been outside to feed the porch cats, and it had been just normal - chilly and somewhat sunny. So later in the afternoon, when I went into the kitchen to make lunch, I was completely astonished that there was snow all over everything! About half an inch of it had accumulated.
The view from my kitchen window:

And the little hemlock tree out by the front door:

That was all fine, but when it was time for J. to leave for sword class, his trunk was frozen shut, and we had to scrape off all the windows. And then when he drove home his car kept doing strange safety-related things that he was not at all familiar with, and he had to go slower and slower, which was really just as well as there were accidents all over the place.
I'd been concerned about walking home from J's house after doing book club there with Zoom, as the driveway was pretty icy, but I made it okay. I didn't really want D. to walk home from S's house under those conditions either, but he did it and was fine. Tomorrow's forecast still says 47, which will be much more normal.
