Shifting gears

Having finished the proposal, sabbatical app, taxes, et cetera, I had hoped to be turning with some vigor to the other things I should be doing: support project, G's documentation, and prelim paper. My energy level is still rather low, however.

From a 1942 work of Japanese propaganda, on the steps the Philippine people had to take to "earn" their independence:

"We believe that a nation which indulges in pretty dresses, nice food, physical enjoyment and expensive fashions can never succeed in establishing a strong nation."

In other words, imperial Japan as the new Sparta?
