Where are you in your dreams?

In a world like Second Life, players occupy a position slightly behind and above their avatars, so that their avatars' bodies are within their field of view. I think it is not accidental that this perspective corresponds to one that is sometimes experienced in dreams.Really? I realize that I don't know enough about other people's experience in dreams. Mine are all first-person: I'm in the dream, doing stuff, "looking out of my eyes" like I do in waking life. I might have a different identity, but whatever it is, I'm "living" it. I've heard of people watching their dreams like they're movies, though. So I'm trying to understand the range of what people experience in dreams.
